Dimensions: 29.7X21 cm
Technique: Acrylics on waterpad paper (300 gr.)
I created Rotten as part of my debut series, Project Avalon. This still life features rotting fruit (pumpkin, pomegranate, plums, lemon, and orange) painted in a realistic style using only black watercolor. Limiting myself to a single color was intentional, as this project sought to master new skills and explore the expressive potential of watercolor. Through this piece, I refined my techniques and gained a deeper understanding of the medium.
The concept of Rotten goes deeper than the surface. The rotting fruit symbolizes the internal corruption of those who have negatively impacted my life. Their outward appearance contrasts with the underlying rot, much like people who appear whole but carry a toxicity that rubs off on others. By painting these fruits with stark, monochromatic details, I sought to reflect the hidden decay and emotional weight these experiences leave behind.
Rotten is a visual exploration of these encounters, turning personal struggles into a study of transformation and resilience.
