I created The Weight of Doubt after the 2023 holiday season, a time when exhaustion overwhelmed me. A year earlier, I had given birth to my daughter, and hosting that year's festivities left me physically, emotionally, and mentally drained. Sleepless nights, endless cooking, and a family pushing my boundaries pushed me to the limit.
After it was all over, I stood in the shower, tears mixing with the water cascading down my face. In that moment, I felt detached from myself, as if I were looking at a completely spent, yet still standing, version of myself. That fragmented, distant woman became the inspiration for this piece.
The figure in the painting reflects that duality: a body enduring the weight of exhaustion, a mind elsewhere, seeking refuge. The vibrant, contrasting colors capture the tension between resilience and vulnerability, between holding on and letting go. The Weight of Doubt is both a personal reflection and a universal story of finding strength amidst life's chaos.
